DA to upgrade vermiculture/organic farming in Molave

PAGADIAN CITY, November 6 - - Representatives from different organizations in Zamboanga Peninsula Region actively participated in the “Writeshop on the Project Proposal Preparation” sponsored by the Department of Agriculture which was held recently at Margarita Hall, Hotel Camila, this city.

Engr. Peter Andalahao, Regional Organic Agriculture Focal Person said that the writeshop is intended for stakeholders who are interested to avail of this program. “The participants made a draft project proposal earlier which we will review together with the technical team who will help critique and after the revision, it will be presented to the director for approval.” he said. 

The Regional Technical Group Committee composed of Mr. Felizardo Salomes, Regional Corn Coordinator; Dr. Olympio Macarayan, Regional Director – FIDA; Mr. Dennis Palabrica, Assistant Center Manager, ZAMPIARC and Engr. Peter Andalahao, Regional Organic Agriculture Focal Person. 

Only one project proposal was approved during the final presentation which is from LGU – Molave, ZDS entitled “Upgrading of Facilities on Vermi Culture and Organic Rice Farming”. The rest of the proposals presented are still subject for revision and approval.

 These are as follows: DA – SRRTDF (San Ramon Research and Techno Demo Farm) – Techno demo and learning farm on Organic vegetable seed production; ZDS Coordinator/PRIC – Urban Organic Vegetable Production; Gawad Kalinga, Kitabog, Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay – Production of improved vermicast Bio – Organic Fertilizers using Probiotics; Sudlon, Molave – Organic Rice Marketing; Pagadian City – Native Chicken Production; Danlugan Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative – Upgrading of integrated organic farming and Balucot Farmers Masipag Association (BAFAMA) – Organic Rice Production.

The National Organic Agriculture Congress will be conducted on November 6-8, 2012 in Cebu City as part of the department’s support to farmers. (JM Templa/DA9/PIA9/alt)
