Dipolog Mayor grieves Robredo’s death

by Franklin P. Gumapon

DIPOLOG CITY, Aug. 22 (PIA) - - Sincere. Upright.  Honest. Hardworking.

This was how City Mayor Evelyn T. Uy described Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, who died in a plane crash on Saturday in the seas off Masbate.

Mayor Uy remembered the late local government chief as the prime mover of the “seal of good housekeeping” among local government units (LGUs) in support of President Aquino’s “Matuwid na Daan” (straight path).

The lady mayor said she felt sad that Secretary Robredo could no longer see the fruits of his endeavor in shaping up the LGUS aimed at curbing graft and corruption and promoting good governance.

Robredo met an accident after his Cebu engagement when a light plane he was riding crashed in waters. Only his bodyguard, Chief Insp. Jun Abrasado escaped death when he wriggled out of the doomed plane and was rescued by fishermen.

Known to be a doting father, the secretary wanted to be home to tender a blowout for her youngest daughter, Jillian, who bagged a bronze medal in the recently concluded international mathematics competition in Singapore.

Mayor Uy considered Robredo an epitome of a good leader whose dedication to public service has been founded on honesty, industry, sincerity, excellence and good governance. (JPA/FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
