Zanorte Provincial Govt. gives Scholarship Grants to IPs

DIPOLOG CITY, JULY 16(PIA)--- A total to One Hundred-Thirty (130) members of the native Kalibugan and Subanen tribes in Zamboanga del Norte have availed of the scholarship grants extended by the Provincial Government of the province through the Provincial Indigenous Coordinating Unit(PICU).

Bai Cristina Andus, the current Head of the PICU said, the scholarship grant which covers technical and vocational courses aims to strengthen the Subanen Empowerment Program of Governor Rolando E. Yebes.

Among the courses offered under the scholarship grant includes Farm Tractor Machinery Operator/Maintenance at the PAIC, Barangay Irasan, Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte; Dipolog School of Fisheries in Olingan, Dipolog City; Automotive Servicing in Sindangan; hito and tilapia culture at Barangay Dumalogdog, Sindangan; Dress-making at Barangay Diwan, Dipolog City; and Beauty Care(Hair-cut,Manicure,Pedicure) in Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Aside from free tuition fees, scholars are also provided with free food, lodging and school supplies with the assistance of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority(TESDA).    

Subanen Empowerment Program and other services and assistance implemented by PICU under the Yebes administration to the lumads of the province has been considered as one of the reasons why Gov. Yebes has been accorded the Galing PooK Award last year.(ATR/PIA9-Zambo Norte)
