PH to commemorate 34th NDPR Week on July 17-23

Pagadian City, July 13 (PIA) – The nation will  commemorate the 34th National Disability and Prevention Week on July 17-23, 2012, with the aim  to stimulate public awareness on the issues and problems of disability, thereby encouraging every citizen of the country to take active role in the upliftment of the economic and social conditions of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) of our society.
To highlight this year’s NDPR Week celebration, the theme “Mainstreaming Persons with Disabilities in Economic Development” is adopted. The theme was conceptualized to contribute and promote the full employment of persons with disabilities and to tackle barriers and gaps, facilitate stakeholder’s cooperation, develop innovative approaches and support human rights-based initiatives for economic development of persons with disabilities.
For this year’s celebration, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will act as the chair of the National Working Committee (NWC), created and organized by the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), supported by various stakeholders in both the government and private sectors including civil society organizations and the sector of persons with disabilities itself.
To show its full support to the observance, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-IX) headed by Regional Executive Director Arleigh Adorable, in coordination with other concerned government agencies has lined up fitting  activities for the said occasion. 
These are as follows: July 16 - hanging/display of streamers at their office vicinity, conduct of a short program with invited speaker to speak on this year’s theme to be attended by all its officials and employees; July 17 - fish and food processing training-workshop to be participated by representatives of the differently –abled persons and selected female employees of DENR; July 18 -  information and education campaign on the National Greening Program (NGP) with the PWDs; July 19 - tree planting to be participated by national, provincial and city offices including selected schools in the city  and selected PWDs.
A culmination program will also be conducted on July 23 to highlight the birth of Apolinario Mabini, as an outstanding icon of PWDs and awarding of certificate of participation to fish and food processing training-workshop participants.  (DENR-9/CAL/PIA9)
