DIPOLOG CITY, June
20 (PIA) - - Barely 10 days to go this city will turn 99 and a series of
activities are slated to be held starting June 23 until July 1 to give color and meaning to the celebration.
Based on the
schedule of activities released by the City Information Office (CIO) headed by
Roberto Pinsoy, there will be an inter-office badminton tournament on June
23-24 at the Dipolog Badminton Center.
On July 25, a
thanksgiving mass will be offered to be followed by the blessing of the city
hall and its annex, opening ceremonies of “Panagsangka 2012, inter-office
volleyball tournament, opening of agro and food fair, inter-office basketball
tournament and a presentation by the Jose Rizal Memorial State
University-Dipolog Campus at 8:00 p.m.
The inter-office
volleyball and basketball tournaments will continue on June 26 plus a friendly
basketball game by chiefs of offices versus Sangguniang Panlungsod members and
consultants. Saint Vincent’s College shall also lead the entertainment show to
be held at the boulevard in the evening.
By Wednesday, June
27, a volleyball game by Sangguniang Panlungsod members against chiefs of
offices will be held and the entertainment show in the evening shall be
sponsored by the Liga ng mga Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan.
As the inter-office
basketball and volleyball tournaments continue, a two-day job fair will start
on June 28. There will also be a basketball game by the chiefs of offices
versus the association of barangay captains. The city schools division, on the
other hand, takes charge of the evening show.
A mangrove tree
planting is going to be held at 7:00 a.m. on June 29. Inter-office volleyball
and basketball tournaments will continue, and the city government employees
will regale the public with Philippine dances in the evening.
The activities
lined up for June 30 include a fun run for Dipolog-based government employees
with male participants to be running for 10 kilometers and the women for 6
kilometers at the Dipolog boulevard, inter-office table tennis tournament,
inter-office volleyball and basketball tournaments, and an entertainment show in
the evening by the Andres Bonifaciom College.
On July 1, 2012,
the 99th founding anniversary of Dipolog, a Eucharistic mass will be
held at the Holy Rosary Cathedral and this will be followed by an anniversary
program at Plaza Magsaysay.
The start of Dipolog’s
centennial celebration will also be officially opened on July 1 featuring the
re-enactment of Gen. Pershing’s proclamation of Dipolog as a municipality,
unveiling of centennial marker and the switching-on of the digital centennial countdown
system.
To give more
meaning and color to the 99th founding anniversary, the city
government headed by Mayor Evelyn T. Uy will lead the inauguration and blessing
of the Dipolog Heritage Center, opening of art and photo exhibit, martial arts
competitions, and the inter-office basketball, volleyball and table tennis
championship games.
In the evening, the
public will be entertained with a fireworks display and concert at the Dipolog
boulevard.
The 99th
founding anniversary celebration of Dipolog is anchored on the theme:”Padayon
sa Pagsubay sa Matarong nga Dalan alang sa Kalambo-an” (Continue walking on the
right path for development).
Dipolog was created
