By: Gideon C. Corgue

PAGADIAN CITY, May 2 (PIA) -- The association of persons with disabilities (PWDs) received a financial grant amounting to P194,550 from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office on April 30, during the opening program of the Labor Day job and livelihood fair in the city.

The president of Kumalarang’s PWD association, Rommel Mantele, received the financial grant in behalf of the organization from Assistant Regional Director Virginia Bonbon as highlight of the 2012 Labor Day anniversary, held at the lobby of city commercial center here.

Mantele was very thankful to the DOLE for making their dreams come true by providing them a livelihood project.

“Gikalipay namo ug dako nga ang DOLE mihatag sa dugay na nga gipangandoy nga pangkinabuhiang proyekto aron nga mapauswag ang sosyal ug ekonomikanhong kahimtang kanamong mga may kabilinggan nga tawo dinhi sa among lungsod (We are very thankful that the DOLE has granted our long-time dream of having a livelihood project to uplift the socio-economic conditions of handicapped persons in our municipality),” Mantele said.

He added that the financial assistance given by DOLE will be used wisely in constructing a poultry livelihood for the disabled persons in the municipality.

Meanwhile, Mayor Allan Damas said the local government unit will provide its counterpart by providing a site for the construction of the poultry farm.

“We have provided them a free site for the construction of this at Barangay Sicade for the accessibility of its members,” Damas said.

The chief executive announced that after the release of check, the project will be immediately constructed, saying that the program of works has been prepared already in the project proposal, which was submitted to the DOLE during their entrepreneurship seminar.

Damas commended DOLE for giving equal entrepreneurial opportunities to PWDs and making them productive and self-sufficient through self-employment. (JPA/GCC-PIA 9, ZamboSur)
