ISABELA CITY, Basilan, May 12 (PIA) – The Isabela City Tripartite Industrial Peace Council in Basilan will hold the Jog/Walk for Industrial Peace on Sunday, May 13 as part of 110th Labor Month celebration.

Department of Labor and Employment Field Officer Wesley Tan said the 3 kilometer jog or walk within the city proper is expected to gather hundreds of participants coming from city employees, the military, and police. He also hopes that a good number of employees and their employers from the private sector will join.

With the theme: “Pagtutulungan. Pagbabago. Disenteng Trabaho”, the activity aims to give recognition to the role of the private sectors in providing decent jobs and propelling the local economy.

“This is an echo of the public-private partnership strategy of President Benigno Aquino III in boosting the economy of the country,” Tan said.

More so he said that this activity will also help foster labor-management relations—i.e. there is respect on the rights of the workers and respect on the prerogative and welfare of the employers.

He hopes that the activity will increase the consciousness of the community to promote and participate in creating an environment for the labor forces that is just, peaceful, healthy, safe, and productive.

The activity will commence at the city plaza at five in the morning and moves around the city proper and winds up at the Provincial Capitol grounds where a simple breakfast of arroz caldo, banana, and egg will be served to participants.

Tan reveals that a short program will also be held where the tripartite council will recognize outstanding employees of the different participating agencies and or companies. Packages of grocery items worth P200.00 will also be raffled during the program.

As of this morning, Tan said that some 600 participants from 40 private entities and 12 government agencies have confirmed attendance to the event.

Tan said the activity was initiated in partnership with the Joint Task Force Basilan of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Provincial Government of Basilan, the City Government of Isabela, and the Depaertment of Labor and Employment. (RVC/PIA9-ZBST)
