DOLE-IX turns-over garments-making equipment, materials

DIPOLOG CITY, May 2 (PIA) - - To provide alternative livelihood to the women sector especially the unemployed ones, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-IX has turned-over garments-making equipment and materials worth P490 thousand to the city government here this morning.

DOLE-IX Regional Director Sisinio Cano personally attended the turnover ceremonies held at the Livelihood Skills Development and Enhancement Center (LSDEC) in Galas, Dipolog City.

Director Cano and Mayor Evelyn T. Uy led the ribbon cutting, symbolizing the formal handover of the garments-making equipment from DOLE to the city government.

The garments-making equipment consist of one cutting machine, one piping machine, one edging machine, 10 high-speed sewing machines and other sewing tools and accessories.

For her part, Mayor Uy expressed her gratitude to DOLE for giving the city government the sewing equipment as these would greatly benefit the people in the city especially the women.

“With this, the people would not only learn how to sew but they would be earning as well,” said the lady mayor.

Director Cano also urged the beneficiaries to make use of the facilities for them to learn and, at the same time, earn income. “We will be helping the people of Dipolog to make a difference in their lifetime. But it all depends on the industry of each individual,” Cano added.

On a personal note, Mayor Uy thanked Labor Undersecretary Lourdes Melicor-Trasmonte for facilitating the release of the funds for the said project. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
