78th Dole Anniversary In Zampen Kicks Off With A Job Fair

Zamboanga City, Dec 8 (PIA) - To highlight the 78th DOLE Foundation Anniversary, with a theme “Sa Ibayong Serbisyo, Tuloy and Pag-asenso” in Zamboanga Peninsula Region, a job fair was conducted on December 7, 2011 at the Plaza del Pilar, Zamboanga City.

In his welcome message, Zamboanga City Mayor Celso L. Lobregat, represented by Vice Mayor Oscar Iturralde, congratulated DOLE and commended the personnel for memorably celebrating the anniversary with job fair which he believed will bridge prospective employers with qualified and skilled jobseekers to address the undeniable effects of the global recession which affected thousands of Filipino workers.

During the opening of the job fair, DOLE-9 ARD Yahya A. Centi reminded the applicants to be ready with their credentials and entice the employers and recruiters of their qualifications.

DOLE-9 Regional Director Ponciano M. Ligutom stressed that the conduct of the job fair had provided another opportunity to the jobseekers in the region to find decent and productive local and overseas employment.

The job fair was participated in by 16 local employers and 11 overseas recruitment representatives with a total of 12-Thousand available vacancies.  Ligutom revealed that out of 177 applicants referred, 31 were hired on the spot or 17.5% placement rate was attained.

RD Ligutom disclosed that major events will be held in the morning of December 8, 2011 such as tree planting, ecumenical service, short program and love drive at the Abong-Abong Park, Pasonanca, this City.

Further, DOLE-9 will spearhead the launching of SAGIP-Tamban (Sustained Availability thru Genuine and Intensified Preservation of Tamban) Alternative Employment Programs at the Zamboanga City Hall Conference Room.

He said that SAGIP-Tamban is a joint program of the concerned national government agencies, local government units, non-government organizations and major players in the sardines, fishing and canning industries affected by the closed fishing season which took effect last December 1, 2011 until March 1, 2012, pursuant to a Joint DA-DILG Administrative Order No. 1, series of 2011 which prohibits the catch of sardines, locally known as “tamban” in the South Sulu Sea, Basilan Strait and Sibuguey Bay.  The beneficiaries of the program are the fishermen and the temporarily displaced workers of said industries.  (DOLE9/DM/PIA9-ZBST)
