 BY EMVER CORTEZ

QUEZON CITY – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and four other government and private organizations will receive the Recognition for Commitment to Quality Management (Level 1) during the 16th Philippine Quality Award conferment ceremonies on March 20, 2014 at the Malacanan Palace, Manila.

The Recognition for Commitment to Quality Management (Level 1) is given to organizations that exhibited serious commitment to improvement in order to achieve quality excellence and should have started quality and productivity improvement initiatives.

The conferment ceremony, to be led by President Benigno S. Aquino III, aims to honor deserving private and public sector organizations which have effectively implemented sound processes that raise their efficiency and productivity levels and contribute to the country’s competitiveness.

Other PQA level 1 awardees include the Department of Science and Technology - Region XI, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Manila, the Philippine Association of Colleges & Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), and Zamboanga Polymedic Hospital, Incorporated.

The awardees were subjected to rigorous assessment of teams of expert assessors. These assessors evaluate the application, write feedback reports and prepare recommendations to the board of judges, composed of distinguished industry leaders.

The board of judges then reviews and submits the list of awardees to the Department of Trade and Industries (DTI) who serves as PQA’s award manager.

The Philippine Quality Award is the highest level of national recognition for exemplary organizational performance and was established in 1997, through Executive Order 448 signed by then President Fidel Ramos and institutionalizes through Republic Act 9013, also known as the Philippine Quality Award Act on February 28, 2001. (PIA-NCR)
