ZAMBOANGA CITY - “Pagbangon” (rise) depicts real-life stories played by true-to-life characters - ordinary people and how they act on and overcome adversities. This is the official book launched recently on success stories of the program and project beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 9.
The book launching was highlighted by the unveiling of the life-size Pagbangon Book cover.
The book is a compilation on testimonies of success, as “it shares how ordinary people have become the hope of the family, the source of faith of the society and a hero of their own community with the help of the Convergence strategy of DSWD through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Kalahi-CIDSS and Sustainable Livelihood Program,” said Narrabelle Bue, DWD9-9 Regional Information Unit head.
Pagbangon is the sequel to Paglaom (Hope) which was launched in 2012.
“Paglaom centered on how the beneficiaries hold on to hope of an improved life despite poverty, Pagbangon on the other hand revolve around how the beneficiaries get up and outlive poverty through the intervention of DSWD’s programs and services,” Bue explained.
Bue said “the Pagbangon book features nine stories depicting the plight of the selected DSWD beneficiaries, how they cope up with shortage, famine and deprivation to basic social service facilities and eventually rise from poverty.”
