DIPOLOG CITY – An evaluating team composed of representatives from the regional offices of the
National Economic Development Authority (NEDA)-IX, Philippine Information Agency
(PIA)-IX and Civil Service Commission (CSC)-IX as well as a private sector
representative came here last week to conduct field validation and personal
interview with one of the three nominees from the region for the 2013 Search
for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV).
The team met with Dr. Rey D.
Acis, president of the Organized Radio Assistance and Communication Information
Services (ORACIS) based in Barangay Olingan this city, to know firsthand his
projects and activities as volunteer.
ORACIS, a duly registered
organization with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been active
in rescue operations during natural and/or man-made disasters with its
transportation and communication equipment.
The other two volunteers
nominated for the award are Mrs. Porfiria Balan, a barangay health worker and
Mrs. Alicia F. Cabayacruz, a barangay nutrition scholar, all from Zamboanga
City.
It can be recalled that in
2012 SOV a certain Ms. Velia S. Ebol, president of the Zampen Women and
Children Solidarity Foundation, Inc. based in Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay
emerged as national winner. She championed women’s rights and established women
and children center in said municipality.
Started in 2001 the SOV,
which is under the auspices of the Philippine National Volunteer Service
Coordinating Agency (PNVSA), seeks to recognize the exemplary performance of
individuals of Filipino citizenship, Filipino volunteer organizations, and
local chapters of foreign volunteer organizations that provide volunteer
assistance in the country.
PNVSA, which is under the
administrative supervision of NEDA, is a government agency tasked to promote
and coordinate volunteer programs and services in the country. (PIA9)
