DIPOLOG CITY - Dipolog City Councilor Dante G. Bagarinao was elected president of
the Philippine Councilors League (PCL)- Zamboanga del Norte chapter in an
election held Monday at the Valdia Gardens in Barangay Sicayab this city.
Councilor Bagarinao
belongs to the Liberal Party (LP), the dominant political party in Zamboanga
del Norte.
However, Bagarinao and
Gutalac town councilor Roselyn Suana were the only two LP councilors who made
it in the election of PCL officers for the province. All other elected PCL
officers belong to the Alliance for Peace and Progress (APP), a local political
party affiliated with the United Nationalist Organization (UNO).
Councilor Bagariano has been
serving the city from 1998 to 2004 and 2007 to the present.
He is a businessman and an
educator. He was once a high school teacher of St. Mary’s Academy in Dipolog
and a college instructor of the Criminology Department at the Jose Rizal Memorial
State University (JRMSU), Dipolog Campus.
As a councilor, Bagarinao
is instrumental in passing the resolutions for the establishment of the
following schools: Sta. Cruz Elementary School in Barangay Olingan,
St. John Elementary School in Barangay Dicayas, Gulayon Integrated School in
Barangay Gulayon, Biasong Elementary School in Barangay Biasong, Dipolog City
National High School in Barangay Barra and Zamboanga del Norte National High
School (Extension) Miputak West in Barangay Miputak.
He got 138 votes over his
closest rival, Polanco town councilor Ivan Hope Olvis of APP, who got 133 votes.
Other
PCL- ZN Chapter elected officers are as follows: Vice President-Riza Melicor (APP),
Secretary-Merly Masugbo (APP), Treasurer-Melba Tenorio (APP), Auditor-Jimmy
Patrick Chan (APP), P.R.O.-Bienvenida Drilon (APP), Business Manager-Shane
Galon (APP), and Gerry Gallo (APP), Alma Cabale (APP), Rumar Legara (APP), Samuel
Legara (APP), Victoria Escuadro (APP), Roselyn Suana (LP), Victoria Suello
(APP), and Reynaldo Tamparong (APP) as board of directors.
Bagarinao will sit as ex-officio member of the
Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the province.
The PCL-Zamboanga del Norte chapter election was
facilitated by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through
Provincial Director Arnel Gudio with PCL National Secretary General Maybelyn
dela Cruz-Fernandez and Public Relations Officer Ariel Arceo in attendance.
