DIPOLOG
CITY – In support of observance of the National Disability
Prevention and Rehabilitation Week (NDPRW), the city government here has lined
up a series of activities for persons with disabilities starting July 17-23.
Former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada had issued
Proclamation No. 361 declaring every July 17-23 each year as National
Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, which culminates on the birthday
of the sublime paralytic, Apolinario Mabini.
The
weeklong celebration aims to encourage public support in helping uplift the
economic and social conditions of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to make them
active participants in nation building.
Anchored
on the theme, “Building an Inclusive and Non-Handicapping
Environment for Persons with Disability,” the NDPRW will be capped by a free
medical and dental check by the City health office (CHO) and a free massage to
be facilitated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
The
activities conducted during the opening day include a thanksgiving mass and
parlor games for children like straw relay, crutches relay, pinoy henyo, trip
to Jerusalem, tomato dance and wheelchair relay.
Special children will also be given a tour or field
trip to Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.
A culmination program will be held at the Senior
Citizens Covered Court, Sta. Isabel, Dipolog City. (PIA9)
