Pagadian City commemorates 116th Rizal Day

PAGADIAN CITY, 03 Jan (PIA) – Anchored with this year’s theme “Buhayin si Rizal  sa Bawa’t Kabataang Pilipino”, the city government headed by Mayor Samuel S. Co commemorated the 116th death anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal at the latter’s monument in front of the city hall on December 30, 2012.
In his message which was read by City Councilor Atty. Carlos Madarang III Co said, “today we will remember the death of a hero who called and fight for a change during his time.”  

“Rizal represented the very best of us Filipinos, the story of Rizal’s flight can provide us with a source of strength and inspiration to enable us to meet the trying challenges of today”, Co said in his message.

Co emphasized “as the father and servant of the Pagadianon people, work cannot be achieved without team work and strength that we have a strong and principled leadership to whose credit should go to glimmer of hope that continue to glow in our path as a Pagadianons amidst this trying times.”

“ I wish to call upon each and every Pagadianon especially our youth whom this historic commemoration is specifically dedicated to ponder upon Rizal’s role to the great drama of nation building  in the context of this year’s theme “Buhayin si Rizal sa Bawa’t Kabataang Pilipino,” Mayor Co said.

MGen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz, Commanding General of the First Infantry “Tabak” Division, Philippine Army was the guest of honor and speaker was ably represented by Col. Demy  Tejares, Commanding Officer of the 102nd Brigade, 1ID, PA.
The celebration was also attended by officials and employees of regional and local offices, men in uniform, non-government organizations, civic-religious  organizations  city officials and employees. (JPA/CAL/PIA9)
