Simultaneous breastfeeding activity gathers 300 mothers

By Jocelyn P. Alvarez

ZAMBOANGA CITY - - A crowd of 300 lactating mothers simultaneously breastfed their babies during the synchronized breastfeeding activity held recently at the Red Cross Trainign Center, here.

The breast feeding activity conveyed a strong message that “breastfeeding is still best for babies.”

The simultaneous breastfeeding program was an initiative of the city government thru the   City Health Office (CHO) as the culmination activity of the month long observance of the National Breastfeeding Month, August.

The observance of Breastfeeding Month is mandated under Republic Act 10028, otherwise known as the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009.

City Health Officer Dr. Rodel Agbulos said “the activity was a promotion of breastfeeding as the best and safest food for babies.”

Lectures on the importance of and health benefits of breast milk to babies were also given to the mother-participants during the activity.

The said occasion was graced by officials of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Atty. Anne Saguisag and Dr. Paul Andrew Zambrano.
