ZAMBOANGA CITY, Aug. 24 (PIA) - - To drumbeat promotion of healthy lifestyle,
physical fitness among Zamboangueños,
and to intensify level of awareness on TB prevention and control, local government and
private entities partnered for the conduct of “Zumba na Zambo” held recently at
the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Baliwasan.
Zumba
na Zambo is a physical fitness program that involves dance and aero-basics
elements. It also includes some hip hop steps, soca, samba, salsa, meringue,
mambo, martial arts and few bollywood and belly dance moves.
The
dance exercise which was held early morning of Sunday was participated in by
thousands of people from all ages and all walks of life.
Mayor
Celso Lobregat who was himself present during the activity thanked the people
for their participation and the organizers for coming up with such activity.
Meanwhile
City Health Officer Dr. Rodel Agbulos said the activity was also aimed at
intensifying awareness on tuberculosis prevention and cure. “Zamboanga City has
reached its target on detection and cure rate of TB,” Dr. Agbulos said.
“We
try to make people aware on prevention and control of diseases and smoking, since
TB and smoking are interrelated,” he added.
Agbulos
said TB is now curable and preventable and that the city has facility and
capabilities to cure it.
“What
is necessary is early detection and prevention by urging people showing
symptoms of the disease to immediately consult with doctors or health workers
in their respective barangays,” he was quoted as saying.
Zumba
na Zambo was spearheaded by Hermosa TB Council in partnership with Rotary Club
of Zamboanga, Linking Initiatives and Networking to Control TB (TB-LINC), Worl
Vision-Social Mobilization on TB (SMT), Phil. Coalition Against Tuberculosis
(Philcat), Zamboanga Coalition Against Tuberculosis (ZAMCAT), Dept. of Health,
City Heakth Office, TB Task Force Zamboanga, AGAPE Human Dev’t Foundation Inc.,
