DIPOLOG CITY, Aug.
8 (PIA) - - As tourism becomes a potent force in the global economy, the
professors of hotel and restaurant management and tourism courses should carve
in the minds of the students the value of trust.
This was the gist
of the welcome message of Dr. Rosalinda Canoy-Baloria before the participants
to the second Zamboanga Peninsula tourism and hospitality education congress held
here recently.
Doctor Baloria, who
is the current executive director for academic affairs of Saint Vincent’s
College (SVC), stressed that the teachers should “carve in the minds of the
students the value of trust as it undergirds the quality of every relationship,
communication, work project, business venture and effort.”
“As leaders of your
respective schools, in charge of sustaining quality degree programs in order to
produce employable graduates in the field of tourism and hospitality, please
carve in the minds of your students the value of trust,” Baloria said.
Baloria also
emphasized that tourism is business and that it requires delivery of results
that would lead to “build brand loyalty.” To her, this could only happen with
trustworthy people manning the business.
The congress also
tackled topics such as “the role of hospitality education in meeting global
challenges, the role of tourism industry in hospitality education partnership,
executive etiquette in the service industry, building and regenerating learning
communities.”
Some 150 professors
and students from 11 colleges/universities offering courses on hotel and
restaurant management and tourism in Zamboanga Peninsula attended the said
gathering with the theme, Quest for Excellence: Sustainability in Hospitality
Education.” (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
