PAGADIAN
CITY,
Aug 13 (PIA) – Consistent with its effort to promote city-capacity building
towards disaster resiliency, the League Cities of the Philippines (LCP) in
close partnership with Aboitiz Power through Weather Philippines Foundation
(WPF) will soon be distributing automatic weather stations to all cities
nationwide.
This move is part of the
corporate social responsibility of Aboitiz and its commitment towards aiding
the local government units when it comes to disaster preparedness thus the
company will be giving these equipment for free to all cities nationwide.
These automatic weather
stations are state-of-the art equipment used by meteorologists to provide
real-time weather forecasts including temperature, wind speed, wind direction,
humidity, atmospheric pressure, amount of rainfall, and weather visibility. Each
equipment costs US$2,500.00.
Meanwhile, in connection
with the distribution of automatic weather stations, LCP Secretary General
Mayor Hernani Braganza wrote a letter to Pagadian City Mayor Samuel Co
requesting the city to host the technology training workshop set on August 29,
2012.
The said training/workshop
will include the equipment installation process of the automatic weather
stations, operation and maintenance.
WPF will do the training
for free.
Mayor Co said some 50
participants composed of City Environment and Natural Resources Officers
(CENROs), local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (DRRMO), and City
Engineers all over the country are expected to attend the training. (JPA/CAL/PIA9)
