DIPOLOG CITY, July 18 (PIA) - - The best among the rest!

Having toppled other contingents participating in the first Police Regional Office (PRO)-9 Tactical Olympics held recently at Camp Romeo Abendan in Mercedes, Zamboanga City, the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office (ZNPPO) headed by PSSupt. Ramon Martinez Ochotorena has been declared grand champion.

In a press release issued to local media outfits here, ZNPPO said its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team garnered first place and was considered the best in the region with its accurate, swift and perfect execution of all the rigid courses of fire in a “tightly fought” competition.

ZNPPO’s SWAT team was composed of PCI Stephen Bullecer Daang as team leader, Sindangan town chief of police PSI Chamer Gloria Lacay as lead sniper and Roxas town chief of police. The team beat the Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB)-9, Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office, Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office, Zamboanga City Police Office and Isabela City Police Office.

The SWAT competition was judged by the Special Action Force (SAF) and Range Officers of the EXECOM Shooting Club.

Moreover, the Search and Rescue Team led by PI RICHEEN MATES LAGNAYO, Deputy Chief, PIB ZNPPO got second place in the Disaster Preparedness Category.

With its feat, the ZNPPO Tactical Olympics team bagged the most coveted PNP PRO9 Tactical Olympics perpetual trophy.

PNP-9 Regional Director Atty. Napoleon Romero Estilles personally handed the trophy to ZNPPO Provincial Director PSSupt. Ochotorena.

This event was held in consonance with the 10-point action plan pursued by the PNP chief  such as enhancement and specialization of skills which puts emphasis on upgrading PNP’s operational capability, law enforcement and investigation to combat criminality, among others.

Regional Director Estilles said “the increasing volume of crimes in our midst with perpetrators using sophisticated weapons necessitates a more proactive approach by law enforcers. Hence, there is a need to constantly test all the Special Reaction Team (SRT) of this Regional Office as well as on investigation and disaster preparedness in dealing with any situational crisis.”

For his part, Provincial Director Ochotorena assured the people of Zamboanga del Norte that the ZNPPO is manned by efficient and well equipped police personnel who have proven themselves as the best in the region. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
