ZAMBOANGA CITY, May 29, (PIA) - -  Parents and students will get the chance to avail and purchase the much needed school supplies and other basic and prime commodities at discounted prices in the ‘Diskwento Caravan’ that will unfold today, May 29 until tomorrow, May 30 at the Plaza Pershing.

Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Diskwento Caravan is a nationwide project which seeks to help alleviate the plight of consumers in the wake of the rising prices of commodities vis-a-vis the opening of classes which will start June 4.

DTI Provincial Director Engr. Rolando Acuña said some 20 booths will be established at Plaza Pershing where people can purchase variety of products at discounted prices such as school supplies, school uniforms, school shoes and bags as well as basic and prime commodities such as sardines, soap, toothpaste and other grocery items. Discounts will be between 10 to 50% of the original price.

The City Agriculture’s Office will have two booths to display vegetable and fruit products while the Technical Education and Development Skills Authority (TESDA) will also set up a booth and will offer free massage, haircut and manicure and other related services.

Engr. Acuna is inviting all residents of the city to avail of the program and purchase their needs at discounted prices.

The Caravan will open at 9am today with Mayor Celso Lobregat spearheading the opening rites. The caravan will be from 9am to 6pm today and tomorrow.

The Diskwento Caravan: Balik Eskwela is one of the flagship projects of the DTI. In Zamboanga, Diskwento caravans are being held during special occasions such as during Fiesta Pilar in October and Christmas time in December.  (JPA/SC/CIO/PIA9-ZBST)
