Zambo brgy gets P8M school building

By Sheila Covarrubias

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Apr. 17, (PIA) - - Barangay Divisoria recently received a 3-storey 9 classroom building at the Divisoria National High School worth some Php 8 million.

The school building-project was the city’s initiative as it’s display of unceasing commitment to education to ensure better future for the youth.

City Mayor Celso Lobregat himself unveiled the school building in a simple ceremony held recently.

The building is the 7th school building facility constructed in the school campus by the Lobregat administration since 2004 aside from the covered court, fence and road concreting projects also implemented during the same period.

But as he unveiled the latest infrastructure project, Mayor Lobregat directed City Engineer Luis Despalo to prepare with dispatch the plans and estimates for the construction of another building that will serve either as library or computer or science laboratory in a vacant lot inside the campus.

Now called Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat National High School (MCLLNHS), the public secondary school in Divisoria has received tremendous support and assistance from the local government due to its increasing student population, now pegged at over 2,600. The school is considered one of the fastest growing facilities with enrollees coming from Divisoria, Putik, Boalan and the neighboring barangays.

School officials headed by Principal Maria Theresa Borgonia and barangay officials headed by Chairman Roberto Tubilag expressed gratitude to Mayor Lobregat and the city government in general for the never-ending support to the school.

Borgonia in a message during the turn over rites vowed to make proper and good use of the school building as well as the other facilities implemented in the area, as she assured that everything is being done to improve the performance of the students and teachers in local and national achievement examinations.

It can be recalled, that the school was the brain child the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat who purchased the property in the early ‘90s. As congressman then, Mayor Celso Lobregat allocated funds for the putting up of initial school buildings. And since he assumed as mayor, Lobregat’s administration has so far constructed 7 school buildings—2 units of 2-storey 6 classrooms; 2 units of 2-storey 8 classrooms and 2 units of 3-storey 8 classrooms.

The chief executive hopes to see the library or computer or science laboratory building in place, the mayor declared.

“But the proof of all these efforts will be the result of the graduates”, Mayor Lobregat said citing that the performance should be better in the national achievement tests and other competitive examinations.  “This school was named in honor of the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat, I hope the school will be number one is all aspects”.
