DIPOLOG CITY, Feb. 23 (PIA) – A survey on the people’s knowledge and utilization of iodized is slated to be held in 13 sample barangays in region 9 come Feb. 25-26.
Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-IX personnel assigned to supervise the project bared that they together with their field interviewers are now ready to proceed with the data gathering in the field.
The study aims to serve as baseline data for the conduct of a comprehensive communication campaign and program for iodized salt and against iodine deficiency in the country, find out the present knowledge and practices on the use of salt among housewives in five regions of the country, identify reasons on the low utilization of iodized salt on the selected areas, and describe the supply and demand situation on salt iodization in the selected areas.
The sample barangays are situated in the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay with a total number of respondents of 115.
PIA-IX personnel tasked to oversee the data gathering are Franklin P. Gumapon for Zamboanga del Norte, Claro Lanipa for Zamboanga del Sur and Michael Vincent Cajulao for Zamboanga Sibugay.
There will also be a focus group discussion (FGD) relative to the study in Pagadian City on February 27, 2012 to be participated in by health workers, local government unit (LGU) representatives and salt suppliers/distributers/vendors. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
