ZAMBOANGA CITY, 22 Feb. (PIA 9) - - Five teams representing the secondary and tertiary schools in the city will slug it out for the title in the 10th Open Cheer Dance competition which kicks off at 1pm today at the City Coliseum.
The competition forms part of the highlighting activities for the 75th Dia de Zamboanga celebration, a significant milestone in the city’s political history.
The contenders for the title include the WMSU College of Engineering, WMSU College of Nursing, Pilar College, Zamboanga City State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZCSMST) and Zamboanga City High School-Main.
Mayor Celso Lobregat is expected to personally hand over the prize to the winners this afternoon.
Based on the guidelines, the contest is open to all secondary and tertiary level students, including other organizations provided that the group must have 25 to 35 members and are duly enrolled students for the school year 2011-2012. An additional crew of 5-10 persons may be allowed as props management crew.
Each team will be given a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 7 minutes to execute their routine. Exceeding the given time would mean deduction of points.
The competing teams shall be judged according to the adopted criteria to include Synchronization with 35%, Artistry/ Choreography and Style with 35%, Costume 10% and Acrobatic Skills 20%.
Prizes include P30, 000 cash for the first place winner, P20, 000 for the Second Place winner and P15, 000 for the Third Place winner. Non-winning teams will each receive P7, 000 as consolation prizes. (JPA/ SC/CIO/PIA- ZBST)
