Military brings gov’t services to Liminangcong, Taytay

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Nov 12(PIA) – The military continues to bring government services closer to the people as top military officers participated in full force a humanitarian mission in Brgy. Liminangcong, Taytay in Palawan.

The 6th Civil Relations Group of the AFP reported that the military once again spearheaded the conduct of free medical and dental services to Taytay residents last October 29.

Headed by Western Command (WESCOM) Chief LTGen Juancho M. Sabban the humanitarian mission will also try to address several issues affecting the community.

Though Liminangcong is relatively progressive despite its remote geographical location, the village is not without its share of challenges in delivering government services to its residents, particularly in the healthcare area.

For one, the barangay has no resident doctor. According to Liminangcong Bgy Chairwoman Lani Abogado, they only manage to give first aid to a patient who needs the immediate attention of a doctor until brought to the nearest hospital, which is a long way to the town proper of Taytay.

Furthermore, no public transport is readily available to bring patients to the hospital. Abogado said it costs them to rent a vehicle whenever the situation warrants. Barangay Councilor Tony Arreola shared the only public transportation that plies the area are shuttle vans and they pass through the village only thrice a day.

Compounding these problems is the twisting unpaved road that in some parts rocky, narrow, uneven and steep which make  travel from Limangcong to the town proper (and vice versa) jarring and difficult.

Abogado also lamented that their barangay health center neither have enough supply of medicines nor facilities to address all the health care needs of the residents of the village.

Having learned of these deficiencies, the 8th Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT-8) under the leadership of LTC Adolfo Albalate, brought free medical and dental services to the village with the help of the barangay government, the municipal government of Taytay, WESCOM, Naval Forces West (NFW) and the 570th Composite Tactical Wing (CTW).
