ZAMBOANGA CITY – The
Philippine Information Agency (PIA) here is teaming up with the private media,
local cable providers and the Garden Orchid Hotel to promote transparency in
government through regular government-media engagements starting in August,
this year.
Noemi B. Edaga, PIA regional
director said that the agency endeavors to bring together representatives from
the national government and members of the press in a weekly “Kapihan” program,
which aims to discuss timely, relevant and public interest issues in an open
forum.
Jayvee Francisco, president of the
Zamboanga City Press Club, Inc. (ZPCI) expressed his support to the
undertaking. “We need such a program to be able to address prevailing issues in
the city,” he said.
“This project was borne out of its
need by the public. The public has to have a regular venue where they can learn
about government programs, and basically learn of the services that government
offers,” Director Edaga said.
