Police, military to ensure safety of Sto. Nino devotees during ‘Pasalamat Festival 2016’

PAGADIAN CITY, Jan.13 (PIA) – To ensure peaceful and successful conduct of the concelebrated Mass and fluvial procession on Jan. 16, Acting Mayor Bienvenido C. Culve has ordered the police and military authorities to strictly enforce security measurers.   

The concelebrated Mass and fluvial procession are some of the activities of Pasalamat Festival, a weeklong celebration of the feast of our patron saint, which runs from January 8 to 17.

In a press conference held over the weekend, Culve appealed to the public to strictly cooperate with the authorities and to ensure safety and protection of Sto. Nino devotees who will be attending the activities at wharf area on January 16.

Culve said wearing of ball caps and bringing of backpacks and jackets are prohibited in the area where thousands of devotees are expected to converge on Saturday at 4 a.m. for the concelebrated Mass and fluvial procession, respectively.

Culve said security measures at Wharf area are tightened to ensure a peaceful, orderly and successful celebration of Pasalamat Festival 2016.

“The committee on peace and security chaired by City Councilor Ernesto Mondarte has implemented comprehensive security plan since the Festival reeled off January 8,” Culve reported. 

Culve said the Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Barangay Tanod and Barangay Emergency Response Team (BERT)    provide security inside the wharf area, while the Philippine Army takes charge of the security outside the area.
