IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay - Ms. Esel Mae Lipay Tumbale, 14 years old and a Grade 8
student of Tungawan, this province bested 15 other candidates in the Search for
Exemplary Child 2015 (Provincial Level), held recently at Roderics’ Resort
here.
Tumbale, who is the daughter of a dried fish vendor graduated
valedictorian in elementary and won as Miss Intramurals 2014. She was also 1st
runner-up when she joined Ms. GSP 2015.
Aside from being a pretty lass, Tumbale is also good in arts and
received medals and awards for academic and extra-curricular activities with a
highest academic grade of 92.12% and lowest at 90%.
Spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the
search was open to all Pantawid Pamilya children
aged 10-14. The activity aims to recognize Pantawid Pamilya children who serve
as excellent examples in their households, schools and communities.
It also encourages children to be active citizens by complying with the
conditions of the program.
Prior to the actual search held at Roderics’ Resort, the screening and
validation of documents submitted by all 16 candidates was
held at the DSWD Office.
The winner received a cash prize of P2,000, first runner-up – P1,500 and
2nd runner-up – P1,000. All contestants received certificates of
participation, one backpack each, one t-shirt, and fare was refunded by
DSWD.
Specifically, the Kaya Koang Pagbabago Search for Exemplary Child 2015
aims to encourage exemplary compliance of children to the conditionalities set
by the program through recognition of those who excel in doing so.
It intends to develop exemplary Pantawid Pamilya children beneficiaries
as advocates for the program and its thrust in health and education and involve
the LGUs, partner agencies and other partners in the promotion of children’s
rights, thus heightening their awareness on the importance of addressing supply
side gaps.
