PAGADIAN CITY – Over two thousand women participants representing the 21 women’s organizations in the city participated in the launching program of the Women’s Month celebration on Wednesday (March 11) at the covered court, adjacent to the city plaza, here in this city.

The event was spearheaded by the city government through the Local Council of Women (LCW) led by its president and concurrent Vice Mayor Divina Grace Yu in collaboration with the City Social Welfare and Development Office, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), City Agriculture’s Office, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the local Philippine National Police’s (PNP) women’s desk.

This year’s theme, “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan sa Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!” aims to pay tribute to all women leaders who passionately lead and continue to advance women’s advocacies.

In his message, Mayor Romeo Pulmones said the results of a population survey had shown that that by the year 2030, the population ratio will be one is to four, meaning one man for every four women. “And this will also mean that in the coming year’s majority of our leaders will be women,” he pointed out.

“In the household, we could not say that the husband is the king. On the other hand, we could not also say that the wife is the queen, they are both equal, they are equally called king and queen of the family,” he quipped.

In the same occasion six Rural Improvement Clubs (RICs) displayed their products, which were for sale to the public.

An RIC from Barangay Banale held a demonstration in making a peppermint tea, blue ternate juice and fish longganisa among others.

A two-day free medical outreach led by the City Health Office in cooperation with the Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian City Pharmacist’s Association, Philippine Nurses Association, Philippine Midwives Association, City Agriculture’s Office and the JCI Yllana chapter was held last March 12-13.
