WESMINCOM, WMSU, ABS-CBN extend help to Zambo IDPs

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Barangay Tulungatong in Zamboanga City recently received drums and trash bins from the Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) in partnership with the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU).

In a press release, Capt Maria Rowena A Muyuela PN(M), Command Public Information Officer reported that twenty trash bins and nine water containers (drums) were distributed to IDPs last May 16 through the collaborative efforts made by the soldiers and other key stakeholders.

She said that the effort is part of the community mobilization and development program of WESMINCOM. The drums and trash bins were received by Brgy Tulungatong Chairman, Nur Jeopakkal.

The activity was spearheaded by Col. Rodrigo Gregorio, General Staff Course (Infantry), Philippine Army Civil Military Operations Officer of WestMinCom who represented the WestMinCom Commander Lt. General Rustico O. Guerrero AFP.

Also present during the turnover were Professor Aleyssa Bagian Abdul Karim, Professors Ludy Dequit and Janette Francisco of the CSWDO, and Ceilita Quisel, a DSWD Social Worker.

Last May 9, WesMinCom also partnered with ABS-CBN Bantay Bata 163 and Sagip Kapamilya-Zamboanga for a “Gift-giving and advocacy” program for IDPs relocated at Upper Calarian and Tulungatung bunk houses.

Muyuela said part of the relief goods distributed were those donated from Davao City.

The ABS-CBN Bantay Bata 163 Davao donated relief goods consisting of non foods and food items, such as: 75 boxes of shampoo, 75 boxes of conditioner, about 30 sacks of food packs, and 20 sacks used clothes, and 6 boxes of medicines.

Lt General Rustico O Guerrero AFP, Commander, Western Mindanao Command spearheaded the turnover of donations to respective officer In charge of Community Social Work of PTSI-Transitory Site, Upper Calarian and Tulungatong.

The activity was also attended by the WestMinCom staff officers together with the Chairman and Officers of PTSI Upper Calarian and Tulungatong Bunk Houses. (WesMinCom)
