DTI conducts consumer education, FTL orientation seminar

TITAY, Zamboanga Sibugay – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-9 together with DTI-Sibugay conducted an orientation seminar on Consumer Education and Fair Trade Laws (FTL) on March 27-28 at the Municipal Conference Hall here.

The FTL orientation was conducted on the first day of the seminar while its enforcement was conducted on the second day with business owners, senior citizens, and persons with disability (PWDs) from the 30 barangays as participants.

Topics discussed in said seminar include Consumer Rights & Responsibilities, Handling of Consumers Complaint, R.A. 7394 or Consumer Act of the Philippines, R.A. 4109 also known as Labeling Law, R.A. 9994 or the Senior Citizens Act, and the DA-DTI Administrative Order, Series of 2008 which is commonly known as “Special Discount to Persons with Disability.”

As regards the enforcement of trade laws, the DTI reported that the Price Tag Law, Product Standard Laws, Labeling Law, Sales Promotion Law, Business Name Law, and the Accreditation Law have been strictly implemented in the municipality.

Mayor Ma. Esperanza Corazon Rillera welcomed the participants while Engr. Jamir Abubakar, Trade Development Division Chief of DTI-9, explained the rationale of the activity.
