LCC urges LGUs, partners to vie for national literacy awards

By Noemi B. Edaga

PAGADIAN CITY – The Literacy Coordinating Council (LCC) is set to hold regional orientations on the revised criteria and guidelines on the search for the Most Outstanding Literacy Program and local government unit (LGU) nationwide.

The LCC Secretariat headed by Dr. Norma L. Salcedo is expected to arrive in Zamboanga City on March 18 to orient the members of the National Literacy Awards (NLA) Regional Steering Committee on the revised criteria and guidelines for the selection of awardees.

The orientation aims to draw full support from the local stakeholders to universalize literacy in the country by uplifting the condition of poor learners in their communities and by their involvement in various literacy programs and projects of Department of Education (DepED) and LCC.

It could be recalled that in 2008, the municipality of Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte won the NLA awards as the Most Outstanding LGU among class A municipalities in region 9.

The council hopes that this year’s orientation could inspire stakeholders to generate more literacy champions in the region vying for the NLA awards.
