DTI-9 to conduct seminar on modern rubber production, investment opportunities

By Emmanuel D. Taghoy

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 9 in coordination with the Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprises Development (BSMED) will conduct a seminar on modern rubber production and its investment opportunities on March 11-12 at the Casa Mea Hotel this municipality.

DTI-9 Regional Director Sitti Amina M. Jain said the seminar aims to provide information on investment opportunities in rubber industry and impart modern knowledge on rubber plantation/farm management techniques.

On the second day, the participants will visit rubber processing plants and rubber plantations.

Some 100 rubber farmers from all over the region are expected to attend the said seminar.

Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist Roel Catimbang of DTI-Zamboanga Sibugay said in an interview with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) that the DTI is giving more attention to the rubber industry since rubber is one of Zamboanga Peninsula’s champion products.

“Sibugay is touted to be the rubber capital in the region and the provincial government is raring to promote the rubber industry. This is also the reason why the seminar is conducted here,” he said.

Catimbang also informed that the launching of the Shared Service Facilities (SSF) equipment, which was previously scheduled March 6 has been reset in April this year.
