Jobseekers flock to STII jobs fair

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay – Some 180 jobseekers turned up on Saturday, January 25, for the jobs fair held at Sibugay Technical Institute Incorporated (STII) in this municipality.

Graduating students, new graduates and other jobseekers joined the said event, hoping to find employment from prospective employers.

The Jobs Fair, which is the first for the year 2014 before the graduation in March, was initiated by STII in collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the municipal government and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Office.

Around 13 establishments took part of the activity with over 3,000 job vacancies both here in the province and abroad.

The participating establishments for local employment are the DES Appliance Center, Tres Alaz, Rural Bank of Liloy, Taytay sa Kauswagan, Katipunan Bank Incorporated, Surequick Marketing Incorporated and Saint Peter with a total of 66 job vacancies.

For overseas employment, the participating establishments are Joseline International Manpower Corporation (former PARAS), Workgroup international Manpower Services Incorporated, Speed Continental Employment Agency Incorporated, Alkhaleej International Manpower Services, Nonstop Overseas Employment Corporation and Jenerick International Manpower Incorporated with a total of 3,877 job vacancies.

Twenty female applicants were hired on the spot for overseas employment after thorough evaluation of their documents, qualification, experience, and education background.

Some of the jobs abroad include caregivers, drivers, salesladies, service crews, private tutors, cleaners, waiters and waitresses, automotive technicians, cashiers and many others.

Labor and Employment Officer III Hector L. Yap of DOLE-Sibugay said in an interview with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) that the event was only the beginning of the many other jobs fair that would be conducted all over the province.

“Preparations were already made and dates were scheduled for the series of Jobs Fair that will be conducted for the month of February,” he disclosed.

Yap also said the conduct of the jobs fair was a success. (PIA9)
