Fishermen urged to register under FishR program

By Mary May A. Abellon

DIPOLOG CITY – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the city government have urged all fisherfolks here to register under the FishR program.

In compliance with the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 8550 or the Fisheries Code of 1998, FishR is a national program designed to assist the local government units (LGUs) in registering the fisherfolks under the program to ensure and promote their rights.

Fisherfolks refer to fishermen and fishery operators who are directly, personally or physically engaged in fishing.

To register, they are going to see the person assigned in the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture and in Fisheries Information and Management Center in their respective barangays.

Through this program the BFAR and the LGU shall be able to efficiently and effectively provide the fisherfolks with the needed support through appropriate technology and research, credit, production and marketing assistance and supplementary livelihood services. (PIA9)
