Search for 6th RAFI Triennial Awardees is on

DIPOLOG CITY - The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.,(RAFI) is now accepting nominations for the 6th RAFI Triennial Awards for the Ramon Aboitiz Award for Exemplary Individual and the Eduardo Aboitiz Award for Outstanding Institution.

An orientation program on the nomination process was held at Top Plaza Hotel here last July 10 through the initiative of Center for Social Concerns and Development (CESCOD), one of the active members  of civil society in the Zamboanga Peninsula, headed by Jojo Leyson.

Dr. Jocelyn B. Gerra, Chairperson, Call for Nominations Committee, said the RAFI Triennial Awards is conferred every three years to men, women and organizations, who, through their efforts and selfless commitment, bring about change in the lives of the less-privileged in the various groups and communities in the country.

The Ramon Aboitiz Award for Exemplary Individual is open to every Filipino, natural born or naturalized citizen, at least 30 years old and of good character whose dedication to his/her profession has made significant contributions to the advancement of the well-being of fellow Filipinos.

Meanwhile, the Eduardo Aboitiz Award for Outstanding Institution is open to all institutions or organizations. They may be government organizations, non-government organizations, civic organizations  or people’s organizations which have been established for  three years with functional programs and work with other groups in bringing about comprehensive and responsible development.

Nominees for each category will undergo an extensive screening process. The selection process will start when individuals and institutions are nominated for the awards.

The search committee composed of representatives from the media, academe, business groups and people’s organizations or non-government organizations leads the short-listing of nominees and selection of finalists, before the RAFI board of trustees selects the awardees.

Winners of each category will be given a trophy, cash prize of not less than P400,000.00 and the opportunity to travel in Visayas and Mindanao to share their expertise and best practices to various groups.

Mr. Rene Vendiola, a 61-one year old farmer and a Barangay Kagawad of Liptong, Bacong, Negros Oriental, who is the 5th RAFI Triennial Awardee was present during the orientation program and shared the best practices that earned him the award out of 260 nominees. (PIA9)
