Army Chief visits units in Western Mindanao

By Rene V. Carbayas
ISABELA CITY, Basilan – Army chief Lieutenant General Noel Coballes paid a visit recently to the Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) Headquarters at Camp Navarro, Calarian in Zamboanga City.

WESMINCOM is under the command of Lt Gen Rey C Ardo.

In a press release, Col Rodrigo T Gregorio, WESMINCOM command spokesman disclosed that Gen. Coballes met with Army commanders and to assess the overall readiness of all army units in this part of the country for the midterm elections.

He was accompanied by some of his staff during this weeklong visit to Army units.

Gregorio said the Army chief’s visit to WESMINCOM was like a homecoming, as he was once its commander who subsequently became the Vice Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines prior to his elevation to the top Army post on January 22, 2013.

Ardo accorded the Army chief with military honors upon his arrival, which is traditionally accorded to a ranking officer or dignitary. (PIA9)
