Dapitan City allocates P1-M for SPES

By Alfonso T. Ruda

DAPITAN CITY - A total of 473 students from this city’s fifty barangays are going to  benefit this summer from the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) jointly implemented by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the city government led by Mayor Agapito Cardino.

Public Employment Service Officer (PESO) Floro Empeynado said the program beneficiaries will work in three (3) batches for a period of 20 days.

The first batch of 173 students already reported to work last April 1, while the second batch of 160 students and the third  batch of 130 started working on April 8.

SPES beneficiaries from barangays near the city proper are assigned to work at the City’s Engineering Office (CEO) and those residing in the rural areas are directed to work right in their respective barangays.

Under the SPES program, the local government unit (LGU) shall shoulder 60 percent of the students’ salaries while the remaining 40% will be shouldered by the DOLE.

Mayor Cardino urged the students to use their earning from SPES for their studies. He also told them to strive hard to reach their ambitions in life and become successful persons in the future. (PIA9)
