DOLE–9 offers starter kits assistance to displaced Permex workers

Zamboanga City - The change of management of Permex Producer and Exporter Corporation has led to the termination of employment and displacement of 445 workers.

Realizing the need to improve the lives of these affected workers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through the Zamboanga City Field Office (ZCFO) headed by Mr. Ian A. Lahi came to the rescue and was able to profile 342 displaced workers.

Yesterday, February 20, 2013, DOLE facilitated the initial release of starter kits benefitting 22 displaced workers involving a total amount of P219, 000.00 to venture on carpentry, welding, electrical service, baking, garments manufacturing, and commercial cooking projects.

Occupational Safety and Health Executive Director Ma. Teresita Cucueco emphasized the importance of Safety and Health practices to the beneficiaries and explained the benefits that they can avail from DOLE.

DOLE-9 Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano said that the Kabuhayan Starter Kits are intended for workers who are displaced to be able to augment their family income. (FPG/GTT/DOLE9/PIA9/alt)
