ZAMBOANGA CITY, OCT. 18 (PIA) - - Members of the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA)- Western Mindanao Chapter gather in Zamboanga City for a 3-day assembly forming part of the post Fiesta Hermosa events.

As this developed, Mayor Celso Lobregat thanked the PVMA for organizing the Regional Convention in Zamboanga at a time when the city is in the midst of the Hermosa Festival month stressing it adds sparkle to the very colorful celebration of the city’s rich culture and tradition rooted in the people’s strong faith and devotion to Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar.

The event, slated from October 16-18, is held at the Zamboecozone Conference Room in San Ramon.

In his message read for him by City Veterinarian Mario Ariola during the welcome night Monday (Oct. 16), Lobregat cited the significant role played by veterinarians in the aspect of medical care of animals, treatment and prevention of diseases of animals, especially the domestic animals.

“And the first thing that comes to mind is the rabies. And veterinarians like you are the ones in the forefront of veterinary medicine or surgery”, the mayor said.

He expressed confidence that the 3-day event will give the PVMA members the opportunity to be updated on the latest trends of the profession and to better prepare them for emerging challenges.

Lobregat added that Fiesta Hermosa which culminated with the Fiesta Pilar celebration last October 12 was a resounding success as evidenced by the throngs of people that participated and witnessed the different events despite the unstable weather condition.

The PVMA Regional Convention themed “The Holistic Initiative: Strengthening the Mind, Body and Spirit of Veterinarians through Continuous Education, Zealous Practice and Comradeship”, forms part of the Fiesta Hermosa celebration this month.

Numerous other gatherings were held here during the Fiesta Hermosa and these included the Regional Convention of the Operating Room Nurses Association of the Philippines (ORNAP) and the 4th IBP Mindanao Convention of Lawyers among others.  (JPA/SC/CIO/PIA9)
