crowd of 300 lactating mothers simultaneously breastfed their babies during the synchronized
breastfeeding activity held recently at the Red Cross Trainign Center, here.
The breast feeding activity conveyed a strong message that “breastfeeding is still
best for babies.”
The simultaneous breastfeeding program was
an initiative of the city government thru the City
Health Office (CHO) as the culmination activity of the month long observance of
the National Breastfeeding Month, August.
The observance of Breastfeeding Month is
mandated under Republic Act 10028, otherwise known as the Expanded Breastfeeding
Promotion Act of 2009.
City Health Officer Dr. Rodel Agbulos said “the
activity was a promotion of breastfeeding as the best and safest food for
babies.”
Lectures on the importance of and health benefits
of breast milk to babies were also given to the mother-participants during the
activity.
The said occasion was graced by officials
of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Atty. Anne Saguisag and Dr. Paul
Andrew Zambrano.
