By Gideon C. Corgue

PAGADIAN CITY, July 19 (PIA) -- The new set of officers of Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian Press Club, Inc. (ZPPI) for 2012-2013 gathered for their oath taking ceremony at the ZAMSURECO’s Heroes hall last Saturday, with the theme “Nagkakaisang Mamamahayag Tungo sa Matuwid na Daan.”

"Let me congratulate and commend the newly-inducted set of officers of the ZPPI for accepting the responsibilities conferred by their respective offices. It is through your leadership that will lead and steer the club with utmost care so as to sustain its viability at all times," said Atty. Edgar Bongalos, Asst. Regional Director of the Public Attorney’s Office.

Bongalos has observed that some media were put in a difficult and life-threatening situations especially when they expose the truth. And yet, they have not ceased to expose and condemn the evils and wrongdoings that men can do or have done.

“I highly commend your magnanimity, perseverance and dedication to your duties despite the odds,” Bongalos said.

Newly installed president Vic del Pilar of Hardline Publications said in his speech that it is with great honor that he accepted the challenge of becoming the new president, saying that accepting the responsibility is the biggest challenge in his life.

Del Pilar, a retired employee of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), businessman and a farmer vows to introduce reform in the organization.

“I envisioned to nurture a professional service ethic to all ZPPI members for them to serve its clients with utmost integrity and decency,” Del Pilar said, noting that an illegitimate media organization was established in the city who was criticized for doing corrupt activities.

Del Pilar also appealed to the members to observe proper decorum in their profession at all times.

“We want ZPPI a professional media organization that is not tainted with corruption,” Del Pilar said

The newly elected officials were Vic del Pilar, president; Don Sherwin Lu, vice president; Liberal Cabatcha, secretary; Ann Lu, treasurer; Manny Maulana, auditor; Jay Apales, public information officer; and Leah Agonoy, Remai Alejado, Medardo Gutang, Gideon Corgue, Charnyl Albaracin, Nestor Comendador, Lualhati Belen, and Leo Santillan, as board of directors.
