ZAMBOANGA CITY, June 5 (PIA)- - Zamboanga City remains to be in the dengue outbreak level, as cases soared to 1,053 and death toll now pegged at 14.

City Health Officer Rodelin Agbulos declared this yesterday as he called on all sectors anew to intensify drives to search and destroy breeding places of dengue carrier mosquitoes in the households, backyards and in the communities.

“We cannot lift the declaration as of now”, Dr. Agbulos said adding that efforts have to be doubled or tripled in order to bring down the number of cases being registered in the hospitals and clinics.

AS of last weekend, the death toll climbed to 14 and the cases soared to 1,053, he said.

CHO teams are deployed to the different barangays every day to continue with the advocacy on the control and prevention of dengue fever. Doctors assigned in the different sub-districts or barangays are also advised to strictly monitor the implementation of anti-dengue efforts in their areas daily.

Dr. Agbulos emphasized that the campaign to control and prevent dengue fever should be a unified effort of all sectors not only of the local government.

“We appeal to the public to continue the campaign to search and destroy breeding places of dengue and help reduce the number of dengue incidences”.

Meanwhile, the City Health Officer is also mulling the possibility of holding a Dengue Summit in the city where all sectors will be invited to a lecture series on dengue prevention and control.

The proposed summit will form part of the continuous anti-dengue advocacy of the city government.

Mayor Celso Lobregat, it is recalled has declared a dengue outbreak in Zamboanga last May 10.   (JPA/SC /CIO/PIA9-ZBST)
