New LTO-Dipolog chief vows to rid office of scalawags

by Franklin P. Gumapon

DIPOLOG CITY, May 18 (PIA) - - Responding to a public clamor for a change in leadership at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) here, a new district officer has assumed office recently.

Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief Virginia Torres has designated Nurdini G. Laja as the new district officer of the LTO district office here effective May 14.

Upon his assumption to office, Laja paid a courtesy call on Mayor Evelyn T. Uy and assured the latter of ridding the office of fixers and curbing graft and corruption.

Laja said he got reports that certain LTO law enforcers assigned in the area were allegedly extorting money from the motorists. He then vowed to curb this unlawful activity.

Laja, who once served as district officer of LTO-Ipil, replaced Yusoph P. Ismael who was temporarily relieved from LTO-Dipolog after some his men were caught in an entrapment operation conducted by Dipolog policemen almost a year ago following complaints from motorists that those LTO men were extorting money from them.

The new LTO-Dipolog chief also urged all vehicle owners to religiously renew their vehicle registrations to avoid penalty and to protect them from being victimized by unscrupulous fixers passing off as LTO personnel. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
