DIPOLOG CITY, May 8
(PIA) - - As the entire nation is presently celebrating the whole month of May
as Ocean Month, the provincial office of the Department of Environment and
Natural Resources (DENR) in Zamboanga del Norte has lined up certain activities
to highlight the event.
Among the
activities to be undertaken during the month-long celebration include coastal
cleanup, scubasurero (picking up of underwater rubbish) and mangrove tree
planting.
DENR personnel
together with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and volunteer organizations such
as the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) will hold a coastal cleanup and
scubasurero in Dapitan City tomorrow.
A team from DENR-IX
headed by Regional Executive Director Arleigh J. Adorable is also coming to
attend the cleanup activities in Dapitan and to facilitate the signing of a
Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the DENR and PCG. Both agencies shall
agree to sustain environmental protection through regular coastal cleanup
activity.
This year’s Ocean
Month observance has for its theme: “Buhay Dagat, Buhay Natin” (Ocean life, our
life). (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
