Consumers warned vs. unscrupulous LPG regulator dealers

by Franklin P. Gumapon

DIPOLOG CITY, May 7 (PIA) - - The consuming public is now warned against unscrupulous peddlers of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) regulators who would go house-to-house plying their wares.

An inter-agency group composed of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Dipolog city Licensing Office, Dipolog Consumers’ Watch Group and the Dipolog Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has issued this warning amid reports received by the DTI that there were cunning LPG regulator dealers deceitfully selling their products at a very high price.

These dealers would go house-to-house, inspect the LPG tank and convince the house owner to really buy a new LPG regulator to secure his/her home from fire. The price of the LPG regulator ranges from P3,000 to 4,000 a piece.

Upon verification from local stores, these LPG regulators can only be had at P300 to 500 a piece.

The DTI also advised the consumers to immediately report to the authorities whenever they meet such dealers. They may also ask them to show or produce their business permit issued by the city/municipality licensing office and the so-called “home solicitation permit” issued by the DTI.

The consumers are also reminded to always ask for official receipts for their purchased items.

Those who became victims to these scheming dealers were also advised to file their formal complaint with the DTI. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
