Inter-Agency Group warns public against unscrupulous peddlers

by Alfonso T. Ruda

DIPOLOG CITY, APR. 27(PIA)---An inter-agency group has warned the public, especially those residing in the rural areas against peddlers now going around in the different parts of Zamboanga del Norte, presenting themselves as workers of one of the prominent business establishment in Dipolog City.

The warning was issued in response to numerous complaints received by the local DTI office from the victims of the unscrupulous peddlers who are selling LPG regulators at a very high price.

According to the victims, they bought the LPG regulators from the suspects at P2,000.00 to P4,000.00, depending on the mode of payment.

It was later discovered that LPG regulators could only be bought at P300 to P500.00 from the local traders.

The victims positively identified the suspects as Glenn Pagdato and Dante Tigayon, both workers of Pryce Gas Sales Center located at Malvar St., Dipolog City.

During the confrontation with the suspects at the DTI office, the suspects admitted their mistake and promised to repay their victims on May 18 this year.

Along this line, the group urges the public to take precautionary measures in dealing with these kind of people, and always ask for pertinent documents during the transaction. It also reminded the public to always ask for business permit issued by the City or Municipal Licensing Office and solicitation permit from the DTI as well as receipt duly registered with the BIR.

The group further urges the public to report any peddler going around their barangay who can’t present any legal proof of their business trade and report their presence in the area to the proper authorities.

It also urges the victims of illegal peddlers to file their complaint with the nearest DTI office.

The group is now planning to elevate the issue to the top management of Pryce Gas as the persons involved are using the company in their illegal activity.

The inter-agency group is composed of representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Dipolog City Licensing Office, Dipolog Consumers Watch Group and Dipolog Chamber of Commerce and Industry.(ATR/PIA9-Zambo Norte)
