DSWD9 to launch IP’s billboard, info campaign in Dumingag

PAGADIAN CITY, April 8 (PIA) – A gathering of indigenous people leaders and other groups involved in poverty alleviation will be held on April 11, 2012. The event will include a launching of IPs billboard and orientation and information campaign which will be held at the municipal gym, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur. 

The event, according to DWSD9 regional director Teodulo R.Romo, will be a gathering of IP leaders and IP beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, local government units and various stakeholders from all over the province. 

“It is aimed as a mechanism to strengthen the voices of IP leaders and to ensure that LGUs and other entities is potential contribution to the attainment of poverty alleviation and empowerment,” Romo explained. 

The Department of Social Welfare and Development has developed the Indigenous People’s Participation Framework (IPPF) which serves as a declaration of policies and standard procedures in developing, funding and implementing programs, projects and services for indigenous peoples (IPs) as part of the social welfare and development reform. 

“I hope the event will serve as a platform to identify the concerns of our IPs, help address their needs to foster awareness and sensitivity among IPs, and to enable them to intervene effectively in cases involving their rights,” Romo added. 

Expected to attend the event are Governor Antonio H. Cerilles, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP9) regional director Salong M. Sunggod, Philippine Information Agency (PIA9) regional director Noemi B. Edaga, and Mayor Nacianceno M. Pacalioga, Jr. (NBE/GCC/PIA9-Zambosur)
