by: Claro A. Lanipa

Pagadian City, Feb 3 (PIA) – In line with this year’s celebration of the Adoption Consciousness Week from February 4 to 10, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman has directed all DSWD regional offices to set up an Adoption Help Desks in their respective areas to provide free consultation to prospective adoptive parents who want to seek advice in adoption processes and procedures.

This year’s observance is focused on the theme “Isulong LEGAL na PAG-AAMPON,” with the aim to enhance public awareness on the growing number of orphaned, abandoned or neglected Filipino children in need of love and permanent families.

In Zamboanga del Sur, Social Welfare Officer II Rebecca Guillermo said their office will put up an adoption help desk on February 4 and 5, 2012 at the City Commercial Center (C3) which is located right at the heart of the city. This help desk will be manned by social workers from DSWD who will answer queries on adoption.

Guillermo urge prospective adoptive parents who wish to adopt a child to come to their office during  working days or avail their services this coming Saturday and Sunday  (Feb. 4 & 5) at C3 regarding on the processes, procedures and other requirements for  adoption.

Relative to the celebration, a symposium on adoption is scheduled to be conducted in Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur in March of this year. It was found out that  a number of couple/parents in this municipality were adopting a child without legal or proper documents, Guillermo added. (PIA9/CAL)
