by Franklin P. Gumapon

DIPOLOG CITY, Jan. 26 (PIA) - - As natural calamities may come and strike anytime, training on disaster preparedness has been going on in areas prone to flashfloods and landslides in Zamboaga del Norte.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) action officer Engr. Dennis C. Tenorio recently disclosed that barangay leaders and residents of flood-prone villages in the province have been given training on disaster preparedness.

“There is no substitute for being prepared in times of disaster,” Tenorio said.

Tenorio expressed his gratitude to other agencies supporting the conduct of disaster preparedness training such Phivolcs, Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Army (PA), radio groups and others.

Presently, the PDRRMC embarks on improving its disaster response and rescue operations. It is also identifying other areas prone to natural calamities in the province.

It can be recalled that typhoon Sendong that hit Mindanao last Dec. 17 had also caused flooding in the cities of Dipolog and Dapitan as well as in the municipalities of Polanco, La Libertad and PiƱan, leaving P26-million damage to crops and livestock. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
